Today
there exist a lot of retro meetings where people meet each other and
talk about the good old time, or the meet at retro fairs, where the
spend a lot of money for old games. But there was a lack of
possibilites to really play these games the people talk about or the
games they bought.
Also many people sit on these meetings and
build up their old hardware and play alone. They could do the same at
home you could say.
To
give people a possibility to really play the good old games who were a
impartant part of our youth, Retro Competition try to organize gaming
competitions at events. The aim is to keep alive the spirit and to have
fun.
Once
there will be the day, when all retro games who like competition will
meet once a year, and have a world championship in retro gaming.
A
Retro Competition is simply a competition in a retro game. The
plattform is not that important. Everybody is welcome to join the
competition.
After
a phase of simple retro competitions, games like Kick Off2 or Sensible
soccer showed what is possible. So a next phase will be to establish
annual championships. These championships could be country-specific
like the Swedish Grenzueberschreitungs Championship, or Europe-specific
like the European Worms championship. Important is, that there is a
true chance, to have a competition in that game for a longer period.
A
event does not need to be a retro event. If some people wants to have a
competition at their event, contact Retro Competition and let's see
what's possible. (Or organize an event and be suprised, that suddenly
there is a competition :-)
To
organize a Retro Competition you only need at least 4 people and a
game, thats all. It's recommended to play on real hardware. Then do the
tournament, send in the results and you are a Organizer.
Winning
a retro competition gains fun and fame, thats enough as a prize, some
cups as a trophy would be nice, even that these trophies are so damned
cheap.
