1. Tell us a bit about yourself. Where are you from, how old are you, what's your name etc? I'm 31, from Rouen, France, where I work as an administrative officer for the government. And that's a reason good enough for me to keep my real name secret. :)
2. What is your current hardware line up? Atari-wise I have several STs, my best one being an STE with 2.5 MB of Ram and 30 MB HD. I also have a Falcon030 + CT60, 256 MB of Ram & CD Burner, an Atari 800XL with an SIO2PC cable & and MyIDE interface, a couple of 1050 disk drives (with the Happy mod), a 130XE, an XEGS, several 2600s, a 7800, 2 Lynx, 2 Jaguars (each one has its own JagCD) and an almost complete Jaguar games collection, as well as a Portfolio. Other systems I have include an Amiga 600, a Megadrive, Playstation 2, 2 Dreamcasts with lots of games (about 200 originals and a few copies), a Gamecube, and my most recent purchase is an Xbox 360 that I really enjoy playing. And of course I have a PC - nothing to rave about though, it has an old overclocked Athlon XP2100 CPU and an NVIDIA graphic card (6600-something).
3. When did you get your first ST? My father bought an ST in october 1988. He intended to use it for his job. But it soon became obvious he didn't need it as much as I did :)
4. Were you alone, stranded in a PC/Amiga universe? It took me a couple of months to find other people that had an ST in my school. At the time (around 1988-1989), the Amstrad CPC was still a huge hit in France, I guess they sold between 800 000 and 1 million computers in my country. A lot of my friends had a CPC. I only knew 1 guy who had an Amiga and no one had a PC. But after a year or two, I knew at least a dozen guys who had an ST. And only 2 who had an amiga.
5. What was the first ST game you played? The game that came with my father's ST was Dungeon Master no less. As a matter of fact, I didn't like the game that much at first. At the time I was more into action games. The 2nd game I got for my ST was Ikari Warriors. I spent hours playing that game with friends.
6. Where did you get your games from in the early days? The main source for genuine games was the FNAC - a french chain of stores selling cultural & high tech items (litteraly from books to computers). There was also an official Atari dealer in Rouen, the shop was called Conseil Computer. It closed in 2000 following the owner's death.
7. What else did you use your ST for? Apart from games, I tried to learn coding with GFA Basic. But this was not something I was good at, so I gave up soon enough. I also spent hours using DCK (Demo Construction Kit). I loved the fact that I could do much more with that program than what was written in the manual.
8. Why do you participate in STOT? What's the motivation? Main reason is: because it's fun! And of course, we have to do whatever we can to beat Xerus, right? :)
9. Are you happy with the games selected so far? Of course! There are games that I enjoyed more than others (Superfly, Rainbow Islands & Buggy Boy come to mind). Overall, I like the fact that STOT gives me the opportunity to actually play games I never really cared about before (like Oids or Crapman). It's a nice way of (re-)discovering some old classics too.
10. What else are you interested in seeing in and/or from STOT? What about that Falcon-only contest you were considering organizing? That should be interesting.
11. Let's imagine you are lost in an island, you, an ST with monitor, a solar power generator and 5 games. Which ones would they be? Superfly, Ultima V, Deuteros, Rainbow Islands and Buggy Boy.
12. What is your favourite game genre? I really enjoy old school turn-based RPGs. Especially the Ultima, Wizardry & Might and Magic series.
13. What is your favourite modern game? That's a tough one. Currently I would say Mass Effect, but I guess I might change my mind once GTA IV is released. :)
14. Emulators or real hardware? Real hardware all the way!
15. Something else you would like to say? Thanks Christos & kRadD for starting STOT in the first place!
