1. Tell us a bit about yourself. Where are you from, how old are you, what's your name etc?
I'm a French guy called Stéphane Perez, born in 1974. I live in a little town called Jarrie, located near the Alps of southern France. This is a really nice place, with beautiful mountains, forests and lakes. I enjoy watching the mountains every day when I go working. Concerning my job, I'm a Java engineer and I design J2EE applications for a small healthcare software editor. Concerning my Atarist life, I'm known as Strider from MJJ Prod. I write articles for ST Magazine, in both French and English. And I'm still a member and Supremacy although this crew is almost dead for the moment.
2. What is your current hardware line up?
I mostly have Atari computers: one 1040 STF with TOS 1.0, two 1040 STEs upgraded to 2 MB, one Mega STE, two Falcons and a 800 XL. One of my Falcons is in a big tower and has been accelerated with a CT60. But I also own other video game consoles and computers: Neo Geo CD, Amiga 1200, Amstrad CPC 6128, Nintendo DS and so on.
3. When did you get your first ST?
On January 1991. It was a 1040 STE with a colour monitor and I paid 850 euros for the whole package. That was a big amount of money for a schoolboy.
4. Were you alone, stranded in a PC/Amiga universe?
Never, I've always been in touch with atarist fellows since 1992.
5. What was the first ST game you played?
Saint Dragon! In fact, I had the demo version of this game on a ST/Amiga bi-format floppy disk before I bought the STE. The first non-demo game was Bubble & Bobble from the compilation "World of Wonders" (along with Rainbow Island, Super Wonderboy and New Zealand Story).
6. Where did you get your games from in the early days?
I bought them in computer shops. Then, I met more and more people and I swapped disks with them. The first cracked game compilation I had was Automation CD #362 with Rick Dangerous II, Magic Fly and Yolanda.
7. What else did you use your ST for?
Mainly GFA Basic coding and writing articles (for Toxic Mag until 2000 and ST Magazine now). I drawn some pictures but I'm not very skilled at painting :-)
8. Why do you participate in STOT? What's the motivation?
Just for the fun :-) I'm not specially good at gaming however.
9. Are you happy with the games selected so far?
Yes, although I only played to few games because I was working far from home during some months.
10. What else are you interested in seeing in and/or from STOT?
For the moment, nothing special, it is ok.
11. Let's imagine you are lost in an island, you, an ST with monitor, a solar power generator and 5 games. Which ones would they be?
Undoubtedly, the first one would be Bubble & Bobble because it is a funny game with a great gameplay. On the second position: Pinball Obsession, a great piece of software, the best pinball game for STE. Concerning the 3 other ones, hard choice... Let's say Lemmings, Rick Dangerous and Picross ST.
12. What is your favourite game genre?
Platform games such as Bubble & Bobble, Parasol Stars, Rodland... Puzzle games such as Tetris, Picross ST, Puzznic... Strategy games such as Civilization, Sim City... I also enjoy fighting games but not on ST (Neo Geo rulez)
13. What is your favourite modern game?
I don't play a lot at modern games. On PC, I play at Guild Wars since 3 years now, I really enjoy playing with my guild mates. My main characters are a Ranger and a Necromancer. I still play at Counter-Strike (the good old 1.6 version).
14. Emulators or real hardware?
Both! Real hardware for the feeling. Real sound, real picture on a real screen, playing with real joysticks, that's fun! Emulators because I don't have all computers and consoles. Moreover I have a lot of emulators on my Nintendo DS, that's very useful when I'm not at home.
15. Something else you would like to say?
Yes, I would like to thank the people who created STOT, that's a great idea and I hope more people will participate to the incoming season.
